Brand Story
To younger generations, Bunn Choon® is the home of crisp, silky egg tarts. For those over 40, it recalls the fragrance of tea, warm pastries and unhurried mornings in an old Kuala Lumpur tea house.
The story began on Jalan Petaling with Wong Kee Swee, who came from Xinhui, Guangdong, China, to Malaya. After working in a local tea house, he took over the business when its owner left Malaya and established Bunn Choon® Restaurant in 1893.
Each morning, the team kneaded dough, baked biscuits and carefully calculated how much to make and sell. The work was demanding yet deeply rewarding—and it shaped the discipline and craftsmanship that still define Bunn Choon today.
Now housed in a double-storey shop beside Kwai Chai Hong, the original signboard once again stands proudly above a wider menu of egg tarts, lau po bing, kaya puffs, dumplings, radish cake, traditional soups, desserts and sweet soups.

Since 1893, Bunn Choon has preserved the authentic taste of traditional Chinese pastries and Hong Kong-style dim sum. What began as a humble tea house in the heart of Kuala Lumpur has grown into one of Malaysia's most recognised heritage food brands, welcoming locals and travellers from around the world.
For us, food is more than something to eat—it is a tradition, a memory and a connection between generations. Every freshly baked egg tart, handcrafted pastry and classic dim sum carries more than a century of dedication to recipes and techniques that have stood the test of time.
